On the border with St. Julien, Chateau Haut Bages Libéral owns its name to the Family of wine traders Libéral whose memebers bought the lands on the Bages plateau and established vineyards in 18th century. Currently, the estate belongs to the Taillan groupe (Chasse Spleen, Gruaud Larose, Ferriere) and is run by Clair Villars-Lurton. The planting is distributed between 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Melot and 3% Petit Verdot. The wine ripens in barrels, 40% of them are renewed each vintage. Haute Bages Libéral is a typically full-bodied, deep Pauillac with blackcurrant notes.
