Lafite-Rothschild's first part origins reach to the Middle Ages. Second part of the name was added in 1868, when James Mayer Rothschild purchased the highly honoured estate. Château Lafite-Rothschild is owned by the French branch of banker family Rothschild until now and is regarded as one of the most famous vineyards in the world. Since 1975, due to Eric de Rothschild's commitment at Lafite-Rothschild the estate has rapidly progressed in its wines' quality. The style has changed to more elegant and exquisite without losing its intensity and complexity. The château is situated in the Nothern parts of Pauillac, at a hill summit and borders with St. Estephe community. The vineyards counts 103 ha and is planted with 71% Caberned Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine is vinified in 100% new barrels.
