The Château Latour's eponym is the tower pictured on the bottle etiquettes that served as defence against attacs from the direction of Gironde. The present round tower was built in 17th century. After 30 years of British ownership the estate has been purchased by a French citizen, billionaire Francois Pinault, in 1994. Since then the estate is ranked as a national heritage and is not to be sold to a foreign national. The estate is situated in the far Southeast of Pauillac and borders with the St. Julien community.
