Château l’Arrosée was first listed in the Féret among the Saint-Emilion Premiers Crus in 1868, when it belonged to Pierre MAGNE, Minister of Napoleon III. The outstanding situation could have ranked it among the Premiers Grands Crus Classés at the time of the 1855 classification. However it was ranked as a Grand Cru Classé because it had neither vinification nor ageing facilities and the harvest was sold to the co-operative. It was in 1956 when François RODHAIN made a determined effort to vinify and age the wine at the château. Since August 2002, Château l’Arrosée has been run by the enthousiastic new owners, Roger and Jean-Philippe CAILLE.

Château l’Arrosée has a character with two clearly defined special features. Firstly, the estate is unusual in having two types of land. Part of the vineyard is planted on the sheltered slope at the south west of Saint Emilion and has the maximum exposure to the sun. The other part lies at the foot of the slope where it is hotter. Another particularity is that the 80% Merlot is blended with 20% of Cabernet Franc and usually 20% of Cabernet Sauvignon. The last one is the great vine of the Medoc region but is not usually planted on clay soils but grows easily here where it exposed to full sun.

The team at Château l’Arrosée manages the vineyard through a “sustainable” agriculture in order to concentrate his efforts on an “integrated production” featuring natural cultivation methods. In 2004, a new winery was built: a vat room, two ageing cellars, a warehouse, a tasting room as well as offices and a reception area.
