Château Maucaillou is a rather new estate. Its beginning starts from 1871 when a trade company built the stock for its Médoc wines. Later on a castle in the old style had been built. The Dourthe family runs the business in the sixth generation. The vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvingnon and Cabernet Franc (62%), the rest is Merlot (32%) and Petit Verdot (6%). Château Maucaillou has rich colour, the concentration of ripe fruits, firm body and mild tannins. Its bouquet and palate are true to type and the wine has good potential to age well. Together with Chasse Spleen and Poujeaux Maucaillou belongs to the jewels in the crown in the Appellation Moulis.
