The origin of this very old winery dates back to the second half of the 16th century. Despite the turmoil of the revolution in 1789, the Lafon family managed to keep it in their possession for over two centuries and even managed to classify it until 1855, its ultimate consecration. Lafon-Rochet thus joined the exclusive circle of Grands Crus Classés des Médocs, of which only five are located in Saint-Éstèphe. Ideally located between Cos d'Estournel and Lafite-Rothschild, the estate can boast the most prestigious neighbourhood possible in the world of wine. It is therefore not difficult to understand why Guy Tesseron, renowned for the quality of his old cognacs, fell for the charm of this unique terroir more than forty years ago.
He had the dilapidated and, in his opinion, unsalvageable buildings demolished and built a new winery and - something that had never existed in Bordeaux before - a château based on the plans of an old 17th century manor house. Lafon-Rochet has made a significant contribution to the reputation of Saint-Éstèphe wines in France and throughout the world, thanks to the owners' constant quest for quality.
