Situated at the Southern edge of Saint Julien appellation, neighbouring Chateau Beychevelle, Chateau Branaire Ducru obtained its name in 1824. The three crowns on Branaire Ducru's etiquette depict the situation at the end of 19th century when the estate was split between three heirs. Stability has been reigning since 1988 when Patrick Maroteaux assumed control on the Chateau. Since then the quality of Branaire Ducru has been steadily increasing. Especially the vintages 2000, 2003 and 2005 are not only very good but exceptional wines worth every cent. The vineyards with 50ha of planting area are distributed between 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Up to 50% of new barriques are used for the vinification, which is lasting up to 22 months. The wines of Branaire Ducru are showing overall depth, concentration and body besides the characteristic elegance and chocolate spicery.
