Château Batailley is situated in the Pauillac appellation in Médoc. Presumably, the name of the château refers to the Battle (fr. bataille) of Castillon in 1453 when French army overcame the Britons. The vineyards of Château Batailley have belonged long time to the same estate as the neighbouring Château Haute Batailley. In 1942 the estate was split between Marcel and François Borie as parts of a heritage. The larger Château Batailley became property of family empire Castéja in 1969. Cabernet Sauvignon covers 70% of its area, Merlot – 26%, Cabernet Franc – 3% and Petit Verdot – 1%. Château Batailley is a dark-coloured wine with light perfume and smoky notes in it. Fresh and appealing on the palate, its acids are rather light and understated, with ripe tannins. The fruits has nice bouquet with lightly fleshy notes. An absolute must for traditionalists!
