Château d'Issan has a long history. The original house was built in the 15th century. The impressive mouted castle, however, that can be seen at the château even nowadays, was erected only in the 17th century. The first noteworthy owners were members of the de Meyrac Family. Due to the marriage to a descendant of the de Ségur family, the Château d'Issan was integrated into de Ségur estate alongside Châteaux Lafite, La Tour, Mouton. Château d'Issan had been assigned its name from Pierre l'Essenhault, a knight and parliamentarian in the 17th centrury, who built the already mentioned castle. Another important proprietor was the Parisian textile merchant Gustave Roy who invested large sums into the cellar and vineyards. After the World War II, and a quality reduction caused by it, Château d'Issan was took over by the Cruse family who remaints its owner up to the present. The refurbishment and investments which started recently, already bring their fruits: the wine quality has been increasing permanently since then. The wines at château are vinified from 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot in oak barrels which are new up to 50% for each vintage. A typical Château d'Issan shows ripe fruits with characteristic, intensive aromatics. The wine tastes full-bodied at the beginning with good tannins and acidity. The overall picture is completed by nice and elegant sweetness.
