It is in 1966 by sacrificing Henri LEVEQUE’s stamp collection, that he cherished at the age of 15, that the LEVEQUE family buys to its neighbor 2 hectares of vine in the township of Podensac. As the years went by, more acquisitions were made ending up at a surface of 97 hectares. The plots selected were among the best of Podensac, Virelade, Illats and Cérons and especially one gravel formed by the Garonne during the quaternary time. In 1983 their son Patrice finishes his studies of viticulture and joins the family estate. He is then followed by his sister Marie Hélène in 1990 that will take care of the business and management aspects. In 2004, the children will participate actively to the take off of the estate and it is today this whole family that surrounds François and Henri to help them realize their dream. In 2006 the LEVEQUE family asks Hubert DE BOUARD to help them for the quality of their wine.

This appellation is the only one in France that has the same name as its soil: brig gravel mixed to sand and clay-limestone. The grapes varieties are for the reds: 50% Merlot, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. The average age of the vineyard is 30 years.

At Chantegrive, the quality of the harvest is very important: respect of the soils for a better balance between soil and plant and control over the production so that the potential of the soil can be expressed.
