The history of Château Prieuré-Lichine is tracked back to the Benedictine monastery Prieuré Cantenac in the 17th century. The famous wine journalist of Russian origin Alexis Lichine (1913 – 1989) became the proprietor to the estate in 1957 and had run it to his death in 1989. Lichine's son Sasha continued running the business, enlarged the area to the current amount and sold the vineyard to the Ballande family. Grapes count 56 per cent of Cabernet Sauvignon, 34 per cent of Merlot and 10 per cent of Petit Verdot. Château Prieuré-Lichine is appreciated for its silky character, but also for its firmness and roundness provided by plenty tannins.
