The Château de Camensac is located in the area of the Grands Crus Classés des Médocs on the border of the Saint-Julien appellation. Its 75 hectares of vineyards on slopes with deep gravel soils on a clay and local stone subsoil are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
Camensac is a very old vineyard that appeared on the maps of Belleyme as early as the 18th century. In the local dialect, Camensac means "on the waterway" and is composed of the words camens (way) and ac (water). In the 17th century, monks created ditches beneath the gravel crests which contributed to the quality of the terroir by draining off excess rainwater.
The estate became the property of the Merlaut family with the 2005 harvest and is now managed by Céline Villars and Jean Merlaut. The niece and her uncle are also the respective owners of Chasse-Spleen and Gruaud-Larose and are assisted by the oenologist Eric Boissenot. The Cabernet Sauvignon, which has recaptured Camensac, draws fruitiness, race and minerality from the deep gravel soils. The old Merlot vines moderate this temperament and give the wine generosity and volume.
