Château Montrose apears in the XIXth century thanks to Théodore DUMOULIN. The name “Montrose” comes from the color of the heather that used to cover the moor whose color reminds wine. This young estate was only a few years old when he is ranked in the classification of1855. After Théodore DUMOULIN’s death, the estate is sold and then bought by M. DOLLFUS who will change the estate: dependence rebuilt and an increase of the technical potential. The estate then looks like a real little township. At the end of the XIXth century, the estate joins the CHARMOLUE family and will stay in their hands for more than 3 generations. In 2006, the estate is bought by Martin and Olivier BOUYGUES. The two brothers started a renovation program at environmental aim.
The estate is composed of a 95 hectare vineyard all in one piece which is rare in the Médoc. The grape variety of the vineyard is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. The team works hard in order to make of Montrose a model and window of the new technologies concerning sustainable viticulture.
Several pumping overs are led by day during the alcoholic fermentation. The bottling is handled at the estate and a control of the quality of the cork is proceeded. Pre-blends between the lots of a same grape variety of same quality are realized.
