The name of the château is said to go back to an old lady who lived in this house several hundred years ago. Legend has it that near the château, at a crossroad, there was a post office where the old lady (la vieille) "trotted" to every time a carriage passed by to hear what was new. This is how the name "Trotte Vieille" was born.
The second wine of the château was created in 2002 under the name "Dame de Trotte Vieille". An old parchment scroll written on gas cognitive writing from the 15th century confirms that the name was already in use then.
Interesting is that Chateau Trotte Vieille is the only First Growth possessing a vine plot (of Cabernet Franc) that goes back to prephyloxera days. Those vines are separately picked and vinified. Every year there are 135 bottles kept separately from the Grand Vin - for memory and tasting.
The wines of Chateau Trotte Vieille are known for their minerality, freshness, roundness, and lenght. Because of the red fruit taste, the soft tannins and the balance, the wines could be enjoyed in their youth but also have a very good capacity to age.
