Calon Segur is the northernmost of all Cru Classé estates in Medoc and was a centre of the estate Calon in former times. The latter used to be so spacious that it took large parts of the Saint Estephe appellation. At the end of 17th century Nicolas de Segur, the Prince of Wines, assumed control at the Château. He also owned such large estates as Châteaux Lafite and Latour. He is often quoted concerning Calon Segur: „I'm only making wines at Latour and Lafite, but my heart belongs to Calon Ségur“. This attatchment to the estate is signed by the heart on the bottle etiquette. Thus, it is a wine appropriate for weddings not only through its wonderful taste, but also through its symbolical meaning. With the course of time the former Calon estate was split – the vineyards Phélan Ségur and Montrose became independent châteaux. Madame Gasqueton passionate about wine and highly ambitious runs the château now together with the attached Châteaux du Tetre and d'Agassac. The planting area is distributed between Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (20%) and Cabernet Franc (15%). The wine is vinified in barrels new to 50% each vintage.
