The large centennial elms (in French "ormes") have given their name to this vineyard, whose origins date back to the middle of the 18th century. After Lynch-Bages in 1939, Château Ormes de Pez was the second property bought by Jean-Charles Cazes in 1940.
Located on the edge of the village of Pez, in the western part of the commune of Saint-Estèphe, the estate is divided into two very different terroirs: Parcels with gravel tops on quartz and scree soils where the Cabernet can fully develop, and parcels with cooler clayey and sandy soils that are well suited to growing Merlot. From vineyard management to vinification and ageing techniques, the same high standards are applied as at Château Lynch-Bages. An authentic expression of the terroir of their appellation, Château Ormes de Pez wines present a spicy and sensual character with a beautiful tannin structure.
The 18th century manor house and its stone walls surrounding the outbuildings and cellars seem to merge into one with the 40 hectares of vineyards. Five guest rooms offer peace and relaxation in a privileged environment.
Thus, all the conditions seem to be present that are necessary for the production of great wines and for a delightful stay in the middle of the vineyards.
