During the last century, the religious brotherhood of the Marianist order bought the property of La Jalgue and had an orphanage built on the site of an old girondine farm. This measured 46 metres in length, 15 in breadth and 13 in height. This large residence, situated on the side of some hills, and south-facing, housed the brothers who supervised the orphans from the region, as well as those who came from further afield, such as from the Alsace, when this province was annexed by Germany during the 1870s. The orphans of course received a strict religious education, but also had an agricultural training, since an enormous estate stretched out around the orphanage,
on which were situated not only wine crops, but also cereal crops, cattle, sheep and poultry.

After the separation of the church and state property in 1904, the estate was sold and split up into several properties. These properties overcame decades of ups and downs before being regrouped about 20 years ago, thereby enabling the estate to regain its original look.

This property was resumed in 1980 by Michel Géromin, oenologist and former of the INAO.

This wine is notable for its garnet-red robe and violet tints. The aromas are dominated by complex, woody grades completed by a mark of vanilla. It reveals a wonderful purity in the mouth where it leaves an impression of elegance and good balance. Clean and with a final long, it can be served with a fillet mignon of beef or grilled duck breast. To be tasted at a temperature of 16-17°C.
