One of the most world-famous Chateaux, Mouton Rothschild, is situated in Pauillac. The estate is owned by the English branch of banker dynasty Rothschild. The vineyard in these days is the life's work of Baron Philippe de Rothschild who took over the estate at October 22nd, 1922 as a young man and brought it to more and more high quality through establishment of new methods. Another distinguishing feature of Chateau Mouton Rothschild which its management affords each vintage: the labels on the bottles are created by a renowned artist. Mouton Rothschild counts 82ha of planting area distributed between 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Berries are harvested manually, destemmed and resorted again. The wine is then transferred into barriques, small oak barrels containing 225 litres, where it ripens 19 to 22 months. Only new barrels are used. Chateau Mouton Rothschild is distinguished by its rich, dense and opulent style together with full tannic palate.
