Henri Martin is a "real child" from Saint-Julien, grandson of a cellarman from Château Gruaud-Larose and son of a cooper from the village of Beychevelle. The history of his family has long been closely linked to the vineyards and cellars that characterise the landscape of Saint-Julien. For three centuries, the Martins have been working from generation to generation as ploughmen, cultivation managers and wine coopers, and it has always been a winegrower's dream to buy a few rows of Cabernet or Merlot grapes, to cultivate a small piece of land himself and thus build up a legacy.
In the early 1940s, Henri Martin, who initially worked as a cooper like his father, began to take an interest in the vineyards. The 6,000 vines he bought in 1939 next to the family home in Saint-Julien formed the foundation stone for Château Gloria, a heterogeneous puzzle of different classified terroirs - his life's work.
Today, his daughter Françoise and son-in-law Jean-Louis Triaud together with their children Vanessa and Jean continue to run this family winery with enthusiasm and passion.
