Chateau Cantemerle was sold in 1981 to Group SMABTP. At the time of its purchase, the estate was nearly faced with ruin. The new owners invested heavily in reviving the estate planting additional 70 hectares and purchasing new oak barrels.
Chateau Cantemerle wines are characterized by rich, oaky, fruit flavours that balance well. The grape varieties cultivated are mainly 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
