The Château Latour's eponym is the tower pictured on the bottle etiquettes that served as defence against attacs from the direction of Gironde. The present round tower was built in 17th century. After 30 years of British ownership the estate has been purchased by a French citizen, billionaire Francois Pinault, in 1994. Since then the estate is ranked as a national heritage and is not to be sold to a foreign national. The estate is situated in the far Southeast of Pauillac and borders with the St. Julien community. The Grand Vin contains of 75% of Cabernet Sauvingnon, 20% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine matures in new barrels. In overall, the Latour wines are full-bodied, rich of tannins, deep and intensive. Les Forts de Latour, the second label at Château, is one of the most well-structured of Boreaux' and is classified as Quatrieme Crú. Its high classification is caused by the production process when berries come from separated lots inside an acreage and not from young or second-rate vines.
