The first plantations at Château Les Grands Chênes, Cru Bourgeois Supérieur, were made in 1880. This estate was one of Bernard Magrez’s first acquisitions in the Médoc region. Château Les Grands Chênes or "the great oaks" is commonly referred to as the «Pearl of Médoc». It is located on the famous Saint Christoly du Médoc gravel outcrop, an exceptional terroir that gives the wine its special charm. The vineyard was established around an ancient fortress dating back to the 16th century.
It "watches over" the river, along with the Médoc’s greatest Grands Crus Classés. The harvest is conducted by hand and the strict selection is always in respect of the environment. The vineyard is composed of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.
