Located in Urville and currently managed by Michel Drappier, House Drappier has been a property of the Drappier Family since 1808. Yet the history of the vineyard goes back to the 12th century. With 1,5 Mio produced bottles per year and 55 ha of owned land, Drappier is one of the biggest family owned wine-growers. Champagne Drappier was chosen by Charles de Gaulle for his private receptions. He discovered Champagne Drappier and chose a cuvee rich in Pinot Noir (80%) which was renamed in homage to him.
Cultivated in a as natural as possible way, the vineyard gives life to grapes rich in complex aromas. Drappier stands for Pinot Noir, amounting to 70% of the total area. The high percentage of this grape variety ensures corpulent and fruity wines with great structure and finish. Another characteristics of the Drappier Champagne are the low dosage and low levels of Sulphur. The Brut Nature Zero Dosage sans soufre is even completely Sulphur free.
The Carte d’Or cuvée is the very expression of the Drappier style and the “Classic” of the House. With its very high proportion of Pinot Noir (75%), one is almost tasting a Blanc de Noirs. It opens with aromas of fruits such as white vineyard peach and quince, followed by notes of white blossoms and brioche. The palate is powerful and complex, with the characteristic note of quince jelly.
Awards & Ratings
91 Points Wine Spectator:
"This balanced version is firm and lightly toasty, with a tightly knit mix of ripe plum, blanched almond and orange liqueur flavors. Ample ground spice and pink grapefruit zest notes show on the vivacious finish. Drink now through 2020. 2,000 cases imported." - AN, 10-31-2016
90 Punkte Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate:
"Disgorged in June 2019, the latest rendition of Drappier's NV Brut Carte d'Or is showing well, bursting with pretty aromas of peach, honeyed orchard fruit and white flowers. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, chalky and incisive, with fine depth and tension and a penetrating finish." - 30-04-2020, William Kelley
