The name Grand-Puy ("puy" comes from the Latin word podium, meaning hill) refers to the favorable location of the winery on the heights of Pauillac. The Château rises in the middle of the vineyards.

Classified in 1855, Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste has occupied an important place in the history of the Grands Crus of Bordeaux since the beginning of the 16th century. It belonged at that time to a family of parliamentarians, who made the most of the magnificent terroir of pebbles and gave prestige to the estate. The following owners were the Lacostes, who gave it its definitive name, the Saint-Guirons and the Saint-Legiers. In 1930, Raymond Dupin, an interesting personality and a bon vivant, acquired the château, which remained in his possession until 1978. Shortly before his death, he sold it to the Borie family, whom he appreciated for their hard work and for their commitment to the Grands Crus of the Médoc.

The current owner, François-Xavier Borie, is responsible for the renaissance of Grand-Puy-Lacoste. With significant investments, he unceasingly improves the quality of the château's wines, which magnificently express the richness of Pauillac's magnificent terroir.

The vineyards are planted with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. The wine is aged in 50% new barriques. The style of Grand-Puy-Lacoste is generally fruity, intense with rich Casssis and cedar aromas and a broad tannic framework that allows for long aging and maturity.
