Château Phélan Segur was founded 1810 in the neigbourhood to such famous Châteaux Montrose and Calon Segur when the Irishman Frank Phélan united estates Clos de Garamey and Ségur. Both of them belonged initially Comte Marie-Alexandre-Nicolas de Ségur. During the period from 1924 to 1985 the estate was in property of Leoville Las Cases owners, the Delon family. Subsequently, the château was bought by Xavier Gardinier, the former owner Champagner company 'Pommery'. With the needed persistence and ready to risk he overcame the initial quality problems at Phélan Segur and led the Ch âteau to the top of Saint Estéphe appellation. The Gardienier family represented by Gardienier's son Thierry is still managing the château today. The vineyards measuring 64ha are planted with vine varieties Merlot (35%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (60%). The wine is vinified in 60% of new barrels up to 18 months. Phélan Segur, which is undoubtedly on the quality level of Cru Classé, is very popular with the lovers of classic Medoc wines. It shows typical notes of cassis, smoke, leather and cedar-wood.
