Chateau Leoville-Barton is something like an ideal Bordelaise chateau known by its exceptional high quality, moderate prices and an amiable owner. The estate was founded from the former Château Leoville's small part by the Irish wine merchant clan Barton. Its descendant, Tom Barton, relocated to Bordeaux in 1722 and started a wine trade leading over centuries in Bordeaux. In the early 19th century the family purchased several vineyards and established wine making at two Châteaux – Langoa-Barton and Leoville Barton. Because there are neither wine cellar nor residential building at Leoville Barton, both wines are vinifying at Langoa Barton under strict separation. The current owner Antony Baron has become himself a legend. They tell many anecdotes about him, the most known is his opinion on a magnum bottle: „A magnum bottle? It is the exactly right capacity for a nice evening. But, under one condition: you are starting with a Champagner, the meal is closed with a Sauternes and nobody else is at home...“ the vine varieties are typical for Saint Julien: 72% Caberten Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. Château Leoville Barton has a pure nose with gentle and reserved character of black berries. The palate is overwhelming – very expansive at the start, it is at the same time compact. With fine aroma, the wine reveals its suppleness and richness.
