Château Pichon-Longueville Baron – short name Pichon Baron - had belonged together with Pichon Comtesse de Lalande to one estate until 1850. Since 1987 the vineyard is in ownership of the insurance concern AXA Millésime. The year indicates also a pivot point after long time of mediocrity when shortly after deal the estate was equiped with completely new wine cellar made of stainless steel and Jean-Michel Gazes took over the charge of estate. The spectaculos cellar awarded best design prize is situated underneath a fish lake which provides natural refrigeration. Planting areas cover 73 ha and are planted with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc. Up to 70% new barrels are used for wine maturing. The style of Pichon Baron has a classical Pauillac typicity, caused by its higher Cabernet compound the wine is more masculine and full-bodied than its neighbour Pichon Comtesse.
