Château Margaux which history stretches back to the 12th century is one of the famous vineyards all over the world. During 60s and 70s the quality of wines sank continually. After this period of decay a Greek businessman André Mentzelopoulos bought the château for 72 million Francs and revived the winemaking. Because of the old law according to which the Premier-Châteaux are part of national heritage, the buyer of Château Margaux was nationalised first. Supported by the famous Bordelaiser oenologis Emile Peynaud the new owner invested large sums into wine cellar and vineyards. In order to improve the quality of „Gran Vin“ he started the production of second lable „Pavillon Rouge“. The vintage 1978 marks the beginning of Renaissance at Château Margaux.
